Veganism in dogs? Is it dangerous? Being a vegetarian myself, I thought this was a good idea. But later on realised how important is animal protein for my little Gadhu. I wish to know are there any important pointers I must take care of since I'm not comfortable in preparing chicken or bone broth for my 5mo baby boy 🥺🙌

Veganism in dogs in possible and they can get immense protein from pulses and other plants too. Although, I do not have much knowledge of this personally but I do know that many people have kept their dogs vegan, who are living healthy lives without any deficiency.

Dogs are carnivores and they need non-vegetarian food as it is important source of energy to them. If u can't prepare non-veg food you can give readily available foods or keep them on vegetarian food along with Multivitamins

Hey vani.. Animal protein is very important for a dog to be healthy. I am also a vegetarian and I also don't give chicken or bone broth to bella. I only give eggs , pedigree , and calcium bone to bella. It is not dangerous for a dog be be vegetarian. However it might effect dog's health like he would be weak. But green vegetables are very good. Thanku . Hope it helps.

No, absolutely not. Dogs are carnivores. Even as a vegetarian, I admit dogs, cats, etc need meat in their diet. Humans, however, can live on plants. Dogs can’t. A lot of vegans and vegetarians force their pets to go vegetarian or vegan, because they want to help to “the best of their abilities”. It’s as simple as that. Keep buying your pet what they usually eat, even if you no longer eat it. Some people argue that dogs can live on a vegan diet, and some studies have supported it, but, if you do a little more research, you’ll find that there are very few studies even done, and, frankly, I don’t know if your dog wants to suffer because of your choices. Sorry if that sounded rude😐, but it’s the truth.😊🌺

It is told that, some adult dogs do adapt and even thrive on well-balanced vegan diets, but most do best with a variety of foods that include some animals fats and protein. Dogs could benefit from a vegan meal at least once a week to detox.

I'd say talk to more pet parents and see their personal experience, how their doggos have been on variety of diets.

Hey Vani! Ya it's no problem. protein is important in dogs but you can also feed them foods which are rich in proteins. I am also vegetarian but I manage to provide him some non veg prepared at my home or sometime chicken prepared at shops. Love to your baby boy❤

Technically yes, dogs can survive on both a vegan or vegetarian diet. However, there are some important things to understand to ensure that your dog gets the right nutrition for their age, size and general health

for example adding cooked chicken changes the calcium to phosphorus ratio, which is especially important for growing dogs. So there is no need to supplement your dog’s diet

vegan dogs will struggle to digest the high fibre of plant-based diets and are at risk of vitamin D and B deficiencies. In one study of vigorously exercising dogs, those eating a plant-based diet showed damage to their blood. The blood remained normal in meat-eating dogs

Thanks Ms Monisha! 🙂 I'm personally not very confident about veganism in doggos, actually haven't met any pawrent sticking entirely to veg so far, so I'm sticking with feeding him animal based + plant based diet for now. 😄

Better stick with whatever other pet owners are suggesting as per their experience since it's your first time.
