My puppy isn't staying indoors, the moment someone opens the gate, he is running outside to the street. He is 40 days old.
Some help pls

Dogs enjoy being outside because to them it is where everything interesting happens, especially if they have been at home for most of their day. It is the same case with my pup as well, the better option is to let them roam freely at any open area for some time everyday.

Walking them out is not good for small puppies as they might get infected in outdoor areas where other dogs roam around. If you have enough space at your terrace or in balcony, you can walk them in that clean area.

โ Start with your pup on leash
Open your door 1-2" and close it. Reward your dog for staying. If your dog jumps down, reset him or her, wait for your dog to calm down and repeat until your dog stays.
โ Open your door again but this time to 3". Again, your dog should stay sitting, if they get up or jump off simply reset them, be patient, and try again.
โ Continue to practice this and slowly open the door more and more.
โ Eventually, you should be able to have
the door all the way open and your dog
staying - this will take multiple sessions
and that's okay.
โ Next, give your dog a release word to tell your dog he or she can get up and go through the door with you, this could be 'Okay!" Or 'Release!' whatever feels natural to you.
IMPORTANT NOTES When teaching this behavior:
โ Always make sure you have a gate up outside your dog so that your dog can't truly escape, or always have your dog on a leash (doing both is preferable) Using a stand or something elevated can help decrease your dog's desire to run through the door Eventually you can remove the platform.

Teach Your Dog to Sit and Stay at the Door in 5 Steps๐:-
This process simply takes some patience and consistency on your part.
Step 1: At every door, ask your dog to sit. This can be done with a verbal cue of "Sit", prompting them to sit with a hand signal or lure, or just waiting until they offer a sit on their own. If it is a door with outdoor access, have your dog on a leash for safety.
Step 2: Once they sit, start to slowly open the door. Don't open it too quickly or too wide; start easy!
Step 3: If they move out of their sit, the door closes (the consequence of moving too soon = they lose what they want). Help them reset back into the sit position and try again, making it easier this time by not opening the door as wide or waiting too long before release.
Step 4: If they can hold that sit for a couple of seconds as you start to open the door, say "okay!" and allow them to go through the doorway with you. This is their big reward! Lots of verbal praise and petting is great, too, if your dog enjoys it.
Step 5: Slowly increase the amount of time your dog has to wait, and the amount you open the doorway as they hold their Sit and Stay before releasing with your "okay!"๐ฌ๐๐
